We are Jim and Laura Stringer and we graduated from Sheffield Hallam University in 1989 having studied on the BA (hons) Metalwork and Jewellery Degree. We went to work in Sheffield working in manufacturing and in Education. It was only after having received accolade for our designs that we decided to set up our own workshop and business. We were awarded prizes from The Worshipful Company of Pewters at their annual "Pewter Live" design competition. We set up a small workshop in Meersbrook, Sheffield, and this is where we design and make our work. We are inspired by Nature and the flora and fauna around us.

We design and make quirky pieces in a range of metals including pewter, copper, steel and silver. Designs include giftware, jewellery and quirky homewares. All pieces are individually handcrafted using traditional silversmithing & metalworking techniques.

About us

Hammering texture onto a bowl. My hammer is held vertical (from the base to the top edge) of the bowl and I Starting at the centre point of the base and hammer outwards in a circular motion. The bowl is placed on a steel stake held in my bench vice. The sound the hammer makes lets me know the bowl is touching the stake and is supported. (If the hammering sound was tinny and hollow I would know the positioning was wrong). I hammer round and round until I reach the top edge. The bowl is then buffed/polished on a rotating mop. Finally the fabricated brass snail is soldered in place on the bowl.
